Planning

Planning:

Below I have included a number of images that will show some of the equipment and resources that I will be using for the making of my final product.

Hardware...

Camera:

This is a camera, similar to those available here at college. This would perhaps be used for images that needed to be taken for the magazine. I chose this camera as it is of a good quality and would take very clear photos. However, I would need to plan to borrow the camera from the school and fill out a form to say that I can use it, which means that I would need a set day planned for the photos to be taken.
Tripod:

This tripod would be used in conjunction with the camera to make sure I had some clear steady shots and this would allow me to get better quality shots as I would not have blur from an unsteady hand. It may also help to allow me to take photos from higher angles if I needed to, by holding the tripod up and putting on a shutter timer to take the photo.

iPhone:

This is an image of an iPhone, which I may also use for photography as it would be easier to access as I already have one on me at all times, which means that if a photo opportunity arises when I do not have a camera available, I would still be able to take a  photo. The camera quality is still very good and would enable me to get good clear shots, similar to those of a camera.

Software...

Photoshop:

Photoshop will be the software program that I use the most for the creation of my magazine as it is easy to work with as I have already had past experience with the program. Also it allows me to manipulate images and any other content such as artistic and paragraph text, as well as shapes etc. in the way that I want to, allowing me to create original and creative pieces to go in my magazine.

Fireworks is a program that I may also use for my ancillary pieces as it is similar to Photoshop, but it would mean that I had used mixed media platforms for my product making. however I have not used fireworks for a few years so I would have to find out how to use it again which would take a lot more time, which I do not have enough of to do this.

Location:

For the photographs that I wanted to include in my magazine, I needed photos of luxury and expensive looking property developments that would fit the style of the magazine and reflect the category that I wanted to portray.
To find this, I looked at many ideas for locations of the photographs to be taken before I came up with the idea of using a new development in the local area which I had seen and been interested in many times before, called Thorpe Meadows in Countesthorpe, a new development by Redrow Property Developers.

I visited the show home office at the location and was given permission to look around the show homes at my own pace and take as many photos as I needed for my project. During this location shoot, it was dark and the evening which meant that I could not get a photo from the outside, so I returned the next day to take photos from the outside of the buildings.

Here are some examples of some of the photos that I took of the location including an image from their webpage of the site map, and I have shown one of the homes below:

Institutional Issues:

I have written up a consent form using the model release form as a template, to say that I am able to use the location and this has been signed by a representative of the company which is the location which was used. By doing this, it ensures that any legal issues involving the use of location have been avoided as an agreement will be signed to give written permission for the use of location.

When visiting the location to get the agreement signed to say that I could use the photographs, I was told that I would have to contact the management team at Redrow rather than just a worker at the site. This was to make sure that I was able to use these images, as the worker that I spoke to was not authorised to give permission to distribute the images that were taken. He kindly gave us a business card with the contact details of the management team at the head office so that we were able to contact them.

I then contacted the head office via an email address and sent them this email:

I have not yet received a reply which means that I am currently struggling to continue with my making of my final product as I do not have permission as of yet for the use of the images I have taken. Due to this I have decided that I shall have to commence with the making of my final products and hope that I get the permission for the use of the images, however should the possibility arise that I am not legally allowed to use these photos, then I will have a serious problem and have to re-do my whole magazine research and final products etc. I am hoping that they come back to me and say that I can use them, which means that I will have already have made my final products and I will be able to just upload them and therefore not lose my deadline.

Drafting:

Below are some images of some quick drawings which I did to show the layout and design of my front cover and billboard. They are just initial drafts of my idea for before I make my final products.
